How to install Awe & Bloom's timber panels for a professional finish
Transform your interiors with Awe & Bloom's real wood timber panels. Whether you're using our peel and stick timber panels or the stunning 3D wood panels, this guide will walk you through the simple steps to achieve a professional finish.
Tools You'll Need:
- Tape measure
- Spirit level
- Pencil
- Sharp jigsaw or hand saw
- For 3D timber panels: Solvent-free adhesive (e.g., No More Nails or Pink Grip)
Step One: Preparing for installation
Before starting, let your timber panels acclimatise to the room for 24-48 hours. This allows the wood to adjust to the temperature and humidity for a seamless fit.
Preparation Tips:
- Unbox your panels and lay them out to check the colours and lengths.
- Mix and arrange them for a natural, cohesive look.
- Plan your layout! You can stick to traditional horizontal or vertical designs or get creative with patterns. Allow for 10-20% extra panels if you're working with patterns.
Make sure your wall is dry, dust-free, and level. These panels are not suitable for use in bathrooms, kitchens, or areas with high moisture.
Pro Tip: Double-check that your skirting boards are level for a straight starting point.
Installing peel and stick timber panels
Installing the peel and stick timber panels is so simple you will wonder why you didn't start sooner! Start in the bottom left corner of your wall and work outward.
- Remove the red plastic from the adhesive strips on the back of the panel.
- Position the panel against the wall and press down firmly along its length.
- Repeat with the next panel, aligning it snugly against the previous one.
Pro Tip: Use a staggered joint layout for a natural effect unless following a specific pattern.
Installing 3D timber panels
For 3D wood panels, which do not include the adhesive backing tape, use a solvent-free adhesive such as No More Nails or Pink Grip (available at most hardware stores, including B&Q).
- Apply adhesive in a zigzag pattern across the back of each panel.
- Press the panel firmly against your chosen surface, ensuring a strong bond.
- Continue with the next panel, ensuring each one aligns neatly with the previous panel.
Pro Tip: Keep a spirit level handy to check alignment as you work.
Step Three: Cutting to size
When you reach the end of a wall or an edge, before you peel the tape off the next panel, measure and mark the panel with a pencil. Then cut it to size using a sharp jigsaw or hand saw.Now you can peel and stick the cut panel.Continue this process until your space is completed.
Once installed, step back and enjoy your transformed space. The natural wood panels, whether peel and stick or 3D, add depth, warmth, and elegance to any room.
Extra Info: Hanging and securing items
After installation, wait 24 hours for the adhesive to fully cure before hanging any items on the slatwall, such as small pictures.
For heavier items like TVs or shelves:
- Pre-drill holes into the slats for fasteners.
- Screw into the wall behind the panel for added support, ensuring the load is on the structural wall and not the panel alone. The panels are not designed to take the weight of additional items which is why the fixings must go through into the wall behind.
Important Notes:
- These panels are not suitable for use in bathrooms, kitchens, or outdoor spaces.
- Ensure your wall is prepared and clean for the best results.
- Solvent-free adhesives can provide a strong, lasting hold for 3D timber panels.
